What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy is a form of bodywork that focuses on bringing balance to the central nervous system.

Using light touch, the therapist, evaluates the rhythm of the craniosacral system - the soft tissues and fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord.  Using pressure of no more than the weight of a nickel, the therapist's hands listen to the motion and rhythm of this central nervous system and gently influence it to come to a place of more balance and better health.

Because the central nervous system is basically in command of all functions of the body, many symptoms of dis-ease can be aided by this approach including:

  • Migraines and Headaches

  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain

  • Stress and Tension-Related Disorders

  • Motor Coordination Impairments

  • Infant and Childhood Disorders

  • Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Fibromyalgia

  • TMJD Syndrome

  • Scoliosis

  • Central Nervous System Disorders

  • Learning Disabilities

  • ADD/ADHD

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Orthopedic Problems

  • And Many Other Conditions

A typical session will occur in a private and quiet room.  You remain fully clothed as you relax on a comfortable padded table.

The therapist will gently place their hands upon your body using very light touch.  Typically, this will begin on your feet; however, sometime the head or sacrum is where a session will begin.  With pressure of no more than 5 grams, the therapist will encourage release of restricted areas improving the form and function of your central nervous system. A session can last up to an hour or more.  It can be used alone or combined with other therapies to create desired effects.

What you experience will be individual.  Generally people experience deep relaxation and feelings of warmth, gentle pulsing, and perhaps expansion in the areas that the therapist is working.
